Black is beautiful: the Fab40s gals are styling all-black outfits

Hey lovelies! How are you all doing today? Great, I hope! I’m excited because it’s time for the Fab40s and this month Ada got to choose the theme, ‘Black is Beautiful’, and so we’re styling an all-black outfit.

I love to wear black, it’s been my go-to colour for so long and I know it suits me so I do have rather a lot in my wardrobe! However, I really wanted to wear my newest purchase, something I bought online while I was in the UK over Christmas. It’s this fabulous black serape. Isn’t it divine?

My all-black outfit

Several years ago, I bought a cream knitted serape from Massimo Dutti, which I use whenever we travel in the car in the winter. But I’d been wanting one in a dark colour for some time. I struggled to find one and then I had a lightbulb moment… I suddenly remembered Lizzy from What Lizzy Loves featured one a while ago. So I searched her blog and discovered Samuel Tweed.

Black serape

I chose the black serape and ordered it as a Christmas present to myself! When it arrived, my initial thought was that it was huge! Lizzy is taller than me and I hadn’t taken that into account. However, once I wore it a few times, I soon realised it wasn’t too big at all. It was utterly perfect. It kept me warm the entire drive back from England, through France and Spain back into Portugal and I was super snug. I paid £99 for the serape which is more than I had intended to spend, but it’s worth every penny. I adore it.

It’s not just the serape that’s the star of this outfit though, is it? This amazing handbag comes pretty close. It was a Christmas present from my in-laws. It’s super cute and classy and I figured it would go really well with an all-black outfit. It’s one of those handbags that will look fabulous dressed up or down and I’m excited to see how else I can style it in the future.

Unusual handbag

The rest of this outfit comprises black skinny Levi’s, black ankle boots from Aldo and my sexy transparent lace top from Bershka. I don’t normally show so much cleavage (!), but with the serape to cover it up a little, I quite like it. My hubby, who took the photos, couldn’t get enough of it LOL! You’ll probably be surprised to learn that the bra beneath it is, in fact, a non-wired one!

I finished the look with black earrings from Auchan, a Citizen Eco-drive watch and jewellery that were gifts from my mother-in-law. The all-black outfit is one of those looks I would wear whenever I don’t know what else to wear. It’s often my go-to look. However, I recently decided I need to add more colour to my wardrobe. I’ve already got my eye on a few things. But that’s for another post. For now, let’s see how the rest of the Fab40s gals are styling their all-black outfits…

Ada, Elegance & Mommyhood

I’m loving what a rock chick Ada looks like! The leggings and those combat boots are utter perfection. But it’s the mini red clutch that has me all aglow! It’s the perfect accessory to finish off this all-black outfit!
Outfit Details:
Sweater – Ann Taylor.
Leggings – Spanx.
Combat Boots – American Eagle.
Sparkly Res Cuff – LD Watkins Designs.
Silver Bracelet – Handmade (Gifted).
Mini Clutch – Mac.
Red Lipstick – Nars.

Daenel, Living Outside the Stacks

Daenel looks absolutely gorgeous in her outfit this month. The funny thing is though, that she found this challenge really quite difficult and ended up going with brown accessories because she owns nothing black! I must also comment on her hair — seriously woman, you look HOT!

Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge

Shelbee looks super cute in her lace-trimmed plaid skirt. I adore the black loose-fitting sweater and boots too. Considering the weather looks freaking freezing, she looks warm (ish) lol! Love it, Shelbee!
Outfit Details:
Outfit Details: Fringed Sweater-Michael Kors
Skirt-Thrifted
Tights-c/o Sheertex
Boots-Shoe Dazzle
Gloves-Isotoner
Clutch-Old Navy
Earrings-c/o Anjolee
Hat and Necklace-Old

And me, without the serape…

Suzy, I literally am in love with every single element of your outfit! That lace top is magnificent, the wrap is so totally my jam, I love your boots, and that bag is absolutely brilliant! Well done, my friend, very well done! I laughed about your cleavage remark because I was just out taking the photos the other day with Jeff and he kept zooming on my cleavage! I get home to a photo roll of that instead of my outfit! LOL. (He did took photos of my outfit, too.)

Woowoo! That is a fabulous looking top on you Suzy! Love the sheer design and the embroidery. The cape /poncho is beautiful as is your new bag. Lovely gift! The colors are beautiful in it and really pop against the all black.
    Have a great day!

  5. I love the lace top! I have wraps but not a serape. The red lipstick really sets the look to. I need to be more adventurous with lip colours. This has got me thinking xx

    • Suzy says:

Thanks Laurie! I do love to wear red lippy but I usually end up with more on my teeth than my lips lol! Also, I do like to put on a bit of lippy at home at the moment considering I can’t wear it anywhere else (otherwise my mask gets covered in it!!!)
I’d like to see you being adventurous with lip colours too!

First of all congratulations on the new blog. The blog and its name suits you so much! I am glad that me choosing the color black was so easy for you. Like you I own a lot of black but rarely wear it. The fitted lace top took my eye, it is sexy and a little revealing but pairs so perfectly with what we call ruanas or ponchos. I learnt the name “serape” from you. It’s funny how many items of clothing, the British call different from us. You look gorgeous my friend and nailed this challenge!

Welcome by and check out my post. =)

Ada, thank you so much, my friend! I think it was a fabulous theme and one I did find quite easy considering the amount of black in my wardrobe lol! I really need to start wearing more colour though lol!
      Huge hugs,
      Suzy xx

  7. Love love love. That serape is beautiful. It looks like brushed knit, so cozy. And paired with the sexy lace top is stunning. But that bag. Oh. My. Word. It’s so much fun.

  8. It is amazing to me how you managed to look a serape look sexy, but you did with that lace top. If the bra underneath is non-wired you must have very pretty boobs. I can imagine that your husband loved to take the photos haha. I once had a serape in a coral colour from a very fancy Scottish brand but I gave it away to someone who is always cold as I couldn’t style it at all.
The bag is sooo good. Your in-laws must know you pretty well. It really is an eye-catcher, especially with this all black outfit.
I look at the others of Fab40 and they have done very well too. The way Ada is holding her clutch made me laugh. It is positioned in a funny place haha.

    • Suzy says:

Thank you so much Greetje. My in-laws didn’t use to get my taste but recently, they seem to know me so well!
PS. I chuckled too at placing the little red clutch!

  9. All black is my go to color and MOOD. Your lace/sheer top is gorgeous! I feel you, I wouldn’t normally wear something like that too but the wrap makes it more modest like you said. LOVE!

Utterly fabulous outfit Suzy. It looks dramatic and sexy with a gothic romance vibe. The serape is a perfect finishing touch. We all need a serape in our lives! Xx

    • Suzy says:

Oooh I didn’t even think about it having a gothic romance vibe. I like it, Gail! Thank you so much, lovely!

Love your serape Suzy. Nothing in Australia goes by this name but I read about it in the books. Love your lace top underneath, you can’t imagine more different textures put together in one outfit

    • Suzy says:

Thanks Anna! I’d never heard of serape before either — I love that we can learn stuff from our fellow bloggers. I learned all about it from What Lizzy Loves!

I’m not a fan of black but I do like the lace top. I think black needs to have some texture to it to make it worth my while and the top is great

    • Suzy says:

That’s quite a good point, I don’t think I actually thought about it from a texture point of view! Thanks for stopping by!

You look fabulous Suzy! The lace top looks amazing on you! The serape looks very snuggly. I always take a poncho or wrap with me when I’m travelling, although I’ve forgotten what that feels like now! Thanks for linking up!
